President’s Message – May 2023
The Thrill of the Super Blooms!
California’s record rain and snowfall totals this past year have not only filled our lakes and streams with much needed water, but also blessed us with extraordinary wildflower blooms beyond any in recent memory.
Last week we ventured out into the typically arid Carrizo Plain area of Central California in search of one of these spectacular blooms everyone was talking about, and we found what we’d hoped for. For miles and miles, we were rewarded with yellows, purples, pinks and blues in every direction, all thriving in still lush green pasture lands. While maybe a week or two past the peak, the grassy hillsides and valley floors all bursting with color were a spectacular sight to behold!
This was just one of many wildflower super blooms around the state, but what a thrill to experience! I hope you all are enjoying your own forays out into California’s wildlands in search of Mother Nature’s color explosions. To me, these super blooms have been one of our state’s most extraordinary and memorable springtime exhibitions that I can recall.
In the words of author Anthony T. Hincks, “Wildflowers don’t grow haphazardly as we are led to believe. They grow in fantastic patterns which are different to each of us you see.”
So, if you haven’t already, please, get out and enjoy them while you can!
Cheers!!
Carrie
