The 2023 photo contest is off and running big time! The first two months, January and February, we had an amazing number of photos submitted. Quantity and quality. More than a 90-minute discussion with our new Photo of the Year judge, Shravan Sundaram, and veteran judges Chris Dallas, Sierra Nevada Conservancy, and Troy Swauger, California Department of Fish & Wildlife – lots of insight about the photos and species presented. It’s far more complicated than most people realize.

In the end, we had three outstanding images. We hope you’ll agree.

California Watchable Wildlife (CAWW) celebrates the state’s wildlife and diverse habitats by acknowledging and elevating the value of wildlife viewing to benefit individuals, families, communities, and industries while fostering awareness and support for wildlife and habitats.
