Meade Fischer – December 5, 1941 – June 22, 2026

With a heavy heart, we share that Meade left his planet on June 22, 2026. A man of great wandering and adventure, gentle soul and soft spoken, he was road tripping on his motorcycle and, sadly, lost control and hit an oncoming vehicle. The other driver wasn’t injured, but Meade didn’t survive the impact.

In his own words, “My name is Meade Fischer, and I’ve lived my entire life along California’s magnificent coast. I started my explorations as a young surfer, then camper and hiker and then kayaker. Over the years I’ve experienced every part of the coast, most outdoor activities and every season.” These are the truest words.

At 85 years young, Meade was still exploring and discovering the world. Just this year, he took a solo trip to Vancouver Island breathing the air, kayaking many waterways, and doing what Meade did best – making the most of everyday. Doing what many people half his age wouldn’t have the energy to accomplish.

He wrote many wonderful books – fiction and nonfiction. Writing was in his blood. Also, generously sharing his love of writing with neighbors near his home in Lincoln, California.

Meade was born and raised in the LA region.  He majored in English at CSU, Long Beach and graduated in 1977 with a degree in English, Creative writing, and a teaching credential. So nearly 50 years ago, he was already spreading his writing wings. Most of his life, he lived near the coast and moved to Northern California to (semi) retire and share a home with his longtime friend, Carrie Duncan. From that location, he continued to travel and enjoy life on the road.

A celebration of life will be announced in the future.  Carrie is processing all of this.  If you’d like to send her a card,

My many years running our own business gives me a unique perspective on managing projects and creating effective programs. Passionate about fishing, I have been a staff writer for Western Outdoor News (WON) for over 20-years. Getting out on numerous WON fishing charters off-shore along the southern California coast, exploring Alaska and Mexico, and finding hidden gems like Bishop and Auburn for wild trout, makes it worth the effort. Writing about the outdoors led me to a mutually beneficial relationship with the professional members of OWAC. As Executive Director, I work to support the members of the organization and achieve their mission to tell stories of the great outdoors, which has been truly rewarding for me both personally and professionally.
