2024 OWAC Outdoor Writing & Photography Achievement Awards
offer cash awards to California high school students
Outdoor Writers Association of California invites juniors and seniors from any California high school or home-school equivalent to enter the OWAC Outdoor Writing & Photography Achievement Awards Contest. First-place winners will receive cash awards and top three winners will receive certificates plus recognition by Outdoor Writers Association of California. Entries are due any time before March 30, 2024. Details at OWAC.org
Contest Categories and Instructions
Articles: Write a minimum 500 words on any outdoor subject as an essay, news article, personal experience, documentary, blog, research study, etc.
Photography: Submit a portfolio of three photos in digital format of any combination of outdoor subjects (fauna, flora, scenic, people). Can be color or black and white.
Poetry: Write 20 lines minimum either in a single poem or combined in multiple poems exploring an outdoors topic or theme.
Format: All entries must be submitted digitally.
Judging: All entrants will receive feedback comments on their photos and writings by professional writers and photographers of OWAC.
Submission: Email your name, postal address, email address, telephone, grade level, high school name and location, and title of your submission to [email protected].
Write “2024 OWAC High School Contest” in the subject field. All entrants agree to allow OWAC to publicize their name and entry in the contest results announcements and publicity.
Founded in 1986, OWAC is the only organization of outdoor media professionals in California. OWAC helps outdoor media professionals inform outdoor enthusiasts, expand awareness of conservation issues, and create a new generation of outdoor-media professionals. OWAC established the Pat Vachini Outdoor Writing and Photography Contest in memory of the wife of Don Vachini, long-time OWAC member and one of California’s foremost outdoor writers and photographers.
