We are thrilled to announce OWAC’s upcoming Spring Conference, set for June 1-5, 2025, in Visalia, CA. Nestled at the gateway to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, Visalia offers a remarkable setting to explore early California history while providing the perfect launchpad for outdoor adventures in two of our nation’s most breathtaking parks.

Our conference hosts have gone above and beyond, extending the schedule by an extra day to ensure we experience the best of the region. A shuttle tour, led by expert docents, will introduce us to the area’s rich history and agricultural significance. Upon reaching the parks, National Park Service rangers will take over, guiding us to some of the most iconic sites—including the legendary General Sherman Tree, the world’s largest living organism.

Attendees will have a variety of immersive activities to choose from:

  • Fly-fishing for golden trout at the stunning Mineral King in Sequoia National Park.
  • Exploring Kings Canyon National Park, including Boyden Cavern and the deepest canyon in the U.S., with a professional guide.
  • Touring historic downtown Visalia (est. 1852) in the morning, followed by an afternoon at Riata Ranch, where you can ride horses and learn personal trick-riding techniques from the world-famous Riata Ranch Cowboy Girls—my personal choice! These expert trick-riders are a crowd favorite when performing at some of the country’s largest professional rodeos. I have personally seen their amazing performances many times!
  • Discovering the region’s scenic preserves and botanical gardens on a guided nature tour.
  • A personalized exploration of the region’s agriculture, art, and architecture, offering a deeper appreciation of its rich diversity.

No matter which experiences you choose, this promises to be a spectacular conference, and we’re very grateful to Visit Visalia for curating such an exceptional program for our members!

We are also excited to announce our sixth annual Pat Vachini Outdoor Writing and Photography Contest for California high school juniors and seniors. In closing, I look forward to reconnecting with all of you at our Spring Conference in Visalia and Sequoia National Park, June 1-5, 2025.
