Rebecca Ramirez
Back in Texas, Rebecca planned her future to become neither a bassist, a fly angler, nor writer, so as life dictates, over the past 10 years in California, she has become a delightful mix of all. Seduced by the mountains (and her partner, Bernard), she found herself crawling into remote canyons searching for wild, native trout. Various adventures led to music performances with their band, PAR AVION, plus conservation work, and when luckiest, an outright combination of the two. Rebecca is an ambassador for California Trout, Patagonia Fly Fishing, and NRS, and is a member of the Editorial Committee for the relaunched California Fly Fisher magazine for which she also contributes articles and jointly manages their social media. She’s one of the subjects of a Cotopaxi/Chaco/CalTrout sponsored short-doc, “Don’t Doubt the Trout,” bringing awareness to the endangered southern steelhead by blurring passions with purpose. The film screened at multiple film festivals and a run of Patagonia shops where she, Bernard and CalTrout featured in a panel to discuss fish and local habitat restoration. More recently, Rebecca has partnered with NRS and filmmaker Isabela Zawistowska for a limited series highlighting watersheds across California and the intersection of angling and advocacy. She has volunteered in the field with Trout Unlimited’s Golden Trout Project and the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains on several occasions, offering not only muscle, but photo documentation and additional support to bring attention to their causes. Her article, “The Myth of Tehipite,” first featured in Spring 2025 CA Fly Fisher issue was picked up by the beloved outdoor adventure podcast, The Dirtbag Diaries, and she expanded the story in a March 2026 episode. Rebecca relishes any opportunity to communicate or receive hope and encouragement toward community efforts regarding the climate crisis.
