Press Trip Invitation: Mother Lode River Center
Whitewater Rafting at its Eco-Friendly Best
Come enjoy a day of rafting and overnight at the Mother Lode River Center near Coloma. This one-of-a-kind, eco-friendly raft company will share their love of rivers and, at the same time, teach you about sustainable tourism...in their own very "green" way.
For thirty years, owner Scott Underwood his staff of experienced guides have helped guests to appreciate the value of free-flowing rivers. In quiet moments, rafters spot wildlife and learn about natural history and early inhabitants.
Mother Lode practices the eco-tourism philosophy of "treading lightly". Their twelve acre oak-shaded camp on the river bank is partially powered by photovoltaic cells, the hot water is heated by solar panels and this year they have introduced the “Eco-Bus”, the first 100% WVO-powered shuttle on the South Fork of the American River! The shuttle will reduce carbon emissions profoundly each and every time it carries passengers down the highway. On the Chili Bar Run they will achieve up to an 80% reduction from their baseline carbon emission goal.
Mother Lode makes the most of life on the river to teach the next generation, and the current one, about the environment. They recently opened the Solar Energy Exploratorium (SEE). The purpose of SEE is to provide Mother Lode’s guests with hands-on opportunities to encounter the many ways solar energy impacts their daily lives and the phenomenal potential solar power has to transform our society in positive ways.
This overnight adventure includes a day of rafting on the South Fork of the American River and one night’s lodging. Available exclusively to Mother Lode guests, the camp is twelve gorgeous acres stretching over a third of a mile of riverfront on the South Fork American River. Amenities include delicious home cooked meals, modern shower and bathroom facilities, riverside fire rings and river sauna. Points of interest in the camp include stone walking paths and self-guided plant tour detailing the Native American uses of indigenous plants.
